Spanning nearly 1,000 sq. miles, Burnet County is located in the Texas Hill Country region. Formed in 1852, Burnet County is named for David Gouverneur Burnet, the first president of the Republic of Texas.
While agriculture has traditionally been a major component of the Burnet County economy, tourism has increased in recent years due to the increase in visitors looking to maximize the natural beauty and outdoor activities of the area. Like many areas in the Hill Country, boating, fishing, camping and other outdoor activities are very popular in Burnet County.
Some of the major cities or towns in Burnet County include Bertram, Burnet, Granite Shoals, Highland Haven, Marble Falls and Meadowlakes.
