Kerrville is located in Kerr County, Texas and has a population of 20,425 according to the 2000 census. Kerrville TX is mostly known for its natural beauty, located in the hills of the area known as the Texas Hill Country. History of Kerrville

Kerrville was originally settled by a group led by Joshua Brown in the late 1840s. Originally named Brownsborough, the area was re-named to Kerrville after James Kerr, a major in the Texas Revolution, settled and helped govern the city in 1856. As the city grew in popularity, Charles A. Schreiner established a series of businesses in Kerrville including retail, banking, ranching, and more.  Schreiner’s home in downtown Kerrville at 226 Earl Garrett Street now houses the Hill Country Museum.

Over the decades, Kerrville has grown and experienced a diversification of its local economy with many businesses in agriculture, manufacturing, health care, services, and tourism taking hold. In the 1990s, the Wall Street Journal identified Kerrville as one of the wealthiest small towns in America. Kerrville remains an attractive place to call home for individuals ranging from young professionals to retirees.

The Kerrville Independent School District oversees four elementary schools, two middle schools and two high schools:

Kerrville is also home to Schreiner University which is a private, four year University named after the historical figure of Charles A. Schreiner. Schreiner University has been recognized as one of the top regional liberal arts colleges in the Western United States according to U.S. News & World Report. The Greystone Preparatory School is affiliated with Schreiner University and offers students a one year program to prepare them for appointment to a federal service academy.

Kerrville TX offers a number of attractions in addition to the gorgeous country side and Guadalupe River.

Kerrville-Schreiner Park is a 500+ acre recreational and camping area located on the banks of the Guadalupe River.  The park offers camp sites, mini cabins, and ranch houses in addition to RV sites with full hookup for water, electric and sewer. Options for fun in the park include playgrounds, volleyball and basketball courts and a full array of water activities in the river such as kayaking and swimming. Kerrville – Schreiner Park has several facilities available for rental including a dining hall capable of seating up to 100 guests, a recreation hall and an amphitheater . The amphitheater is home to “Moves in the park” for guests, but can also be rented for a private event.
